Came here on a Sunday with friends for dinner and the service and food were both impeccable. Each dish had such unique flavors. Plates are designed to be shared and we had 6-7 dishes for a group of 5. Some highlights were the chicken katsu and the pork belly. The only dish we didn’t love was the octopus - it tasted a little bland and wasn’t very tender. The kitchen also sent out a couple complimentary dishes which was a nice touch on top of a great experience. All in all we had a great time and I can’t wait to come back!
This could be a perfect restaurant with the addition of a few more choices for dessert. Having only two soft serve options and no donuts despite them being listed on the menu (and actually only one option since a coconut allergy kept one of the soft serve options from being viable). But here's the deal, every course was great, the roast veggies with the heirloom grains was the stuff that food dreams are made of. The Katsu chicken would be hard to share next time it was too good not to eat it all. The tomato salad with bacon was excellent. And BTW so was the grasshopper softserve with the brownie. So as close to perfect as you get - just need to figure out the deal on the desserts 😁
Incredible and a burger to rival the best burgers in Chicago. Everything on their menu is delicious. Their portions are a bit small, expect the burger, and it is recommended that you order 2-3 items per person. While the portions might be marginal their favor is all there in a concentrated and even in every bite, similar to their Mott Street location. They have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly. Reservations available and vegan friendly items in the menu. If you're not adventurous I'd recommend at least getting the burger and a order of fries with truffle cheese sauce. You won't regret it. The Asian elements added to the burger transcends and elevates it to another level.
It was alright but the Mott burger isn't playing. We had the eggplant which was a bit of a surprise hit. The roasted veggies were also unique but not that unique to stand out from the crowd as a veggie dish (though I appreciate the ambition to make a good veggie dish). The burger then stole the show but was followed by a rather disappointing Porkbelly (which while delicious wasn't spectacular).
Again, very good food and seats. Just not really worth the money (it is a shareable food location where you will share almost every plate-- the burger being a notable exception that we asked to be intentionally split.
Excellent service and staff it could just use a little oomph to get on par with the restaurants around it (like Longman and Eagle).
Great great burger and aioli with the French fries was delish! The location on the boulevard was really great for people-watching. Nice for a brunch date with my girlfriend.
A little too loud and iced coffee was pretty watered down but overall food was delicious.
We had a fantastic time at Second Generation. It was packed when we came right at the 11am opening time on a Saturday. Since we didn’t have reservations we were luckily able to sit at the bar. Our server was very helpful and made me a great Bloody Mary with gin. I was undecided on what to order (so many interesting options) and he helped me decide on the Salmon Belly pastrami sandwich. It was so good! It was such an I retesting and tasty dish. My husband and his sister ordered the French toast and it was really good as well. Overall, this place had nice ambiance and decor, thoughtful and tasty brunch menu and a super attentive staff.
Solid brunch choice and I’ll definitely be back!
The food and service were a 5-star experience. The staff were attentive, kind and so friendly (can’t say enough). The food was amazing — my dining companions ranked the burger among some of the best in Chicago. Don’t skip dessert! The soft serve grasshopper sundae was so unique and well-balanced; the flavor and textures were on point.
All of that being said, the seating in the front area (near the windows) is insanely uncomfortable — definitely not for short or larger-bodied folks. The chairs are mid-height barstools with backs on them. I felt like I was half standing half sitting for most of the meal. When I return, I will definitely ask to be seated in the other section with booths/regular-height chairs.
Terrific food and drinks with a considerate, attentive staff. We stopped by quickly for a meal before heading to a movie nearby, but I wish we had more time to spend eating outside on their patio. The burger and pasta dishes were excellent, but their other shareable dishes also sounded very good. Our waiter was very kind and checked in with us frequently. Highly recommend this spot for dinner on a warm summer evening with friends!
